Hot4Cryo and the establishment of the CryoUNITe facility at the National Hellenic Research Foundation were recently featured in WIRED Greece, highlighting a new era for cryo-electron microscopy in Greece.

The article presents the development of CryoUNITe as an important step toward expanding access to advanced cryo-electron microscopy technologies in Greece and Southeast Europe. With four state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopes now installed, the facility aims to support cutting-edge research in structural biology, materials science, and other interdisciplinary fields.

The feature also highlights the role of Hot4Cryo in transferring scientific expertise, strengthening Greece’s research infrastructure, and fostering new national and international collaborations.

As ERA Chair Prof. Panagiotis Kastritis explains in the WIRED Greece article:

“Our ambition is to develop an infrastructure that will strengthen Greece’s research footprint and serve as a reference point for the wider region.”

The establishment of CryoUNITe represents an important milestone for the Hot4Cryo project and its broader mission to build a strong and sustainable cryo-EM ecosystem in Greece.
