On March 2, the National Hellenic Research Foundation successfully received the state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy infrastructure that will support the CryoUNITe facility of the new Hot4Cryo Center of Excellence.
The new infrastructure will operate under the supervision of ERA Chair Prof. Dr. Panagiotis Kastritis and ERA Junior PI Dr. Fotis Kyrilis, together with the Hot4Cryo ERA team.
Manufactured by Thermo Fisher Scientific, the new equipment includes:
Titan Krios, for high-resolution cryo-TEM studies of biological material
Talos, for screening the quality of (cryo-)EM samples
Spectra, equipped with multiple detectors for advanced materials research
Aquilos 2 cryo-FIB/SEM, for lamella preparation supporting in situ structural studies
Once installation is completed, the CryoUNITe microscopy rooms will host four cutting-edge cryo-electron microscopy systems, establishing a powerful research hub for structural biology and materials science in Southeast Europe.
The successful delivery marks an important step in the development of the CryoUNITe facility and in strengthening advanced cryo-EM capabilities at the National Hellenic Research Foundation.
