Work Packages
WP 1.
General Management & Coordination
This Work Package (WP) is designed to ensure complete synergy, integration, and incorporation of PLK into EIE NHRF. It will oversee the establishment of cryo-EM and its transfer to Greece, with a focus on its applications in biotechnological and medical systems of interest. The primary objective is to guarantee the successful advancement of the project within the specified timeline, budget constraints, and the technical quality standards outlined in the Grant Agreement.
WP 2.
Cryo-EM transfer: High-resolution cryo-EM concepts and methods
This Work Package (WP) is focused on establishing the cryoTeam operational space, which will be instrumental in forming the cryoUNITe. The primary aim of WP2 is to
facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise in cryo-EM to EIE NHRF. This objective aligns closely with Specific Objective 2 and also intersects with Specific Objective 1, particularly in kick-starting the crucial knowledge transfer in cryo-EM.
WP 3.
Experimental cryo-em analysis aligned with horizon europe eu missions
The objective outlined here is in line with Specific Objective #3, which aims to ensure the sustained high-quality cryo-EM analysis capabilities at EIE NHRF. The first goal is for PLK to transfer, apply, and enhance their biochemical and cryo-EM analysis methods within EIE NHRF. The second goal is to foster stronger collaborations for in-depth analysis of systems that are aligned with EU missions, such as the “European Green Deal” (e.g. , the structure of fuel cells), and to perform cryo-EM analysis to unveil their intricate architecture.
WP 4.
Computational infrastructure to support cryo-em analysis and open data managemen
A fully operational cryo-electron microscope has the capacity to generate an average of approximately 0.3 terabytes of data per day. Moreover, the analysis of this data can result in scientific datasets that are triple in size, as based on conservative estimates drawn from PLK’s previous experience with a smaller, 200 kV automated microscope. Therefore, this Work Package (WP) primarily focuses on the computational aspects and data management required to accomplish Specific Objective #3. It encompasses the transfer of knowledge and the application of computational methods for the study, analysis, storage, and dissemination of cryo-EM-derived data. The specific task objective is to establish a dedicated cryo-EM computational pipeline, in alignment withthe EU Digital Agenda for 2025.
WP 5.
Communication, dissemination, and exploitation activities
This Work Package (WP) is dedicated to ensuring seamless synergy, integration, and the complete integration of PLK within EIE NHRF, including the supervision of the establishment and transfer of cryo-EM technology to Greece, with specific applications in the fields of biotechnology and medicine. The primary objective is to secure the successful advancement of the project in accordance with the agreed-upon timeline, budgetary resources, and the precise technical quality standards stipulated in the Grant Agreement.
