The Hot4Cryo Lab team embarked on a transformative training journey to the Kastritis Laboratory for Biomolecular Research in the Martin-Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg, Halle, Germany from November 26th until December 1st.
Each member gained invaluable expertise, honing in on specific aspects crucial to their research:
- Dr. Fotis Kyrilis, the ERA Chair Junior Group Leader, provided personalized Cryo-EM methodology training working on various projects.
- Dr. Christos Chochos, researcher B of ICB and expert in Theranostics, explored aqueous CPNs’ cryo-EM visualization and communicated plans for the upcoming NHRF Center of Excellence in Cancer Theranostics and Bioelectronics.
- Dr. Despoina Angelaki, the upcoming cryo-EM engineer in ICB for cellular macromolecules, mastered Glacios microscope operations for enhanced cryo-EM efficiency.
- Dr. Panagiota Koralli, upcoming cryo-EM engineer of ICB for biomaterials, gained expertise in analyzing and characterizing aqueous CPNs.
- Greg Kafetzopoulos, Ph.D. student in cryo-EM at ICB, delved into PDHc’s molecular dynamics and tomography potential for reconstruction.
The training expedition to Halle, Germany, proved transformative for the Hot4Cryo Lab team, equipping them with invaluable insights and practical skills aligned with their research objectives. Enhanced proficiency in conducting cryo-EM experiments and analyzing complex biological structures positions the team for pioneering advancements in ongoing projects.
The team expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Kastritis Laboratory branch in Halle for their invaluable mentorship and support during their stay. They are enthusiastic about applying their newly acquired expertise to drive innovation and contribute significantly to the field of Cryo-EM and biomolecular research at NHRF and propagate their knowledge to the institute.
